The Robin Shepherd Group develops bold brand for local brewery
Jacksonville, Florida (June 17, 2009) - In search of cohesive brand identity, Jacksonville's only local brewery recently selected The Robin Shepherd Group to craft its image from the ground up.
Opened in fall 2008, Bold City Brewery quickly established a cult following among local beer connoisseurs, but lacked interesting branding to back the unique brew. Headed by a mother-son team, Bold City wanted a look that would bring character and identity to their selection of brews-as well as tie the beer to its hometown.
"Creating a brand from scratch is one challenge I can't resist," said Kendrick Kidd, senior art director at The Robin Shepherd Group and lead designer for Bold City Brewery. "Bold City Brewery needed an image to match the homegrown and laid back attitude it's known for."
The Robin Shepherd Group created a main logo for the brewery and also designed separate logos and beer taps for each ale. Incorporating the Jacksonville skyline and unique quirks of the brewery and the city, illustrated subjects include Duke, the resident brew hound, an injured and vengeful manatee from the nearby St. Johns River, and "Killer Whale," the Brew Master's childhood nickname.
In addition to helping the brewery get in touch with its hometown roots, Bold City's unique packaging has been recognized in Web sites including LovelyPackage, The DieLine, SeriousEats and NotCot.
